The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether long distance runners have better quality of life (QoL) than control and to identify the factors which affect the QoL. 52 runners and age sex matched control group were enrolled. QoL was assessed by Psychological General Well-Being Index (PGWBI) and Nottingham Health Profile (NHP). High PGWBI indicates high QoL and high NHP means low QoL. Weekly running frequency and distance, and best record in half marathon and in time taken for 10km running during last 3 months were assessed. For runners, PGWBI was significantly higher and NHP was significantly lower than control (p<0.05). On the NHP, emotional reaction and social isolation were affected by running. As to running related factors, best record in half marathon during last 3 months were related to PGWBI and NHP. These findings suggest that runners showed a better QoL and their best record in half marathon during last 3 months affect the QoL.
